According to tradition, Jesus was buried outside the borders of Jerusalem (outside the second wall described by Josephus Flavius). The traditional place where Jesus was buried was identified in the fourth century by Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, who made Christianity the religion of the Roman Empire. Helena built on the site she identified the Church of the Sepulcher (today in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem). The Church of the Sepulcher is today accepted by almost all Christian denominations as the burial place of Jesus
