The settlement Caper Nahum was a Jewish settlement founded in the 2nd century BC. The settlement was destroyed by an earthquake in 749 and was not rebuilt. The Franciscans bought the area in the 19th century and began to restore the place
There are 2 remains of interesting buildings: • Peter’s house – according to the New Testament, Jesus slept in Peter’s house, and Peter was chosen to be Christ’s apostle after his death. That is why his house is considered holy by Christians
. The Synagogue – in the place there are the remains of an impressive synagogue built of limestone which is above the remains of another synagogue made of basalt. The first synagogue dates from after the 5th century AD and shows that there was a large Jewish settlement in the Byzantine period. The dating of the earlier synagogue is controversial. According to the Franciscans, it dates back to the 1st century AD, to the time of Christ
